GTEC invites you to join them for an Open Lecture with Peter Kabel.

Peter Kabel is famous for being an internet visionary and a star of the new economy, and for the spectacular bankcruptcy of his company Kabel New Media in 2001. Peter founded Kabel New Media in 1993, and with it brought the likes of BMW, Karstadt, and Siemens onto the internet. Success came quickly. Kabel New Media was floated on the stock exchange in 1999 and by 2000 Peter was crowned “entrepreneur of the year” – with offices in Munich, Vienna, Stockholm, London, and New York, employing over 1000 people. And then in 2001 the bubble burst, his biggest clients could no longer pay their bills and Kabel New Media was declared insolvent.

If anything, the experience strengthened him. Since, Peter has run adversiting agencies, digital consultancies, and invested in many others – touching every part of digital business in Germany and all over the world. Amongst others, he pioneered targeted online advertising for Jung von Matt (the Hamburg-based advertising agency) and has taught for over 20 years at Hamburg University of Applied Science (HAW) as Professor for Media Design. Most recently he set up AECAL Asian E-commerce Alliance, which invests and consults digital businesses in India and other Asian markets.

It’s the sort of rollercoaster story classed as a necessary qualification for entrepreneurship in the US, but it’s less common in Germany. Hear about Peter’s personal experience of this turbulent journey in his GTEC Open Lecture on 26th November.

There is a small fee of EUR 5.95 for drinks and snacks during the networking at the end. You can reserve a ticket via this website.
